IGUAÇU uses different sources of bioenergy throughout its production chain. At the Piraí do Sul unit, for example, 45% of the energy consumed is internally produced from thermoelectric origin. This allows for direct environmental gains with the reduction of waste and energy savings.

Another bioenergy source, also associated to the production process, comprises the burning of forest residues, which focuses the biomass generated from plant material (barks, eucalyptus branches and other residues from the eucalyptus and pine).
